Just got 7 trochus snails from my LFS. 3 of the 7 snails have red turf algae on the shells. I’ve battled this stuff before and I don’t want to willingly add it to my tank. I’d rather just toss the snails. Is there anything I can do to remove/kill it from the shells? RTA Does not scrape off easily. Especially from small snails. tia.

You can probably exchange them with some that have clean shells. I have to ask, why did you get them if you don't want to add them to the tank?

Red slim. You can brush shells with toothbrush and hydrogen peroxide

I was making small talk with a friend I ran into and did not inspect them before leaving the store with them. If I would have seen it, I would have had them replaced. The store is about an hour away so I’m not driving back to replace 3 snails lol

That makes sense. My trochus would eat the red algae, even off of each others shells.

Red turf algae sucks. I had it really bad in my previous tank. I beat it but barely. Lost a lot of coral. It doesn’t rub off with a toothbrush and barely scrapes off with something sharp.

I was thinking that but didn’t know if the peroxide would harm the snail.
No harm. Obviously you don't want to give the snail a peroxide bath either . . . LOL

I’d give the snail a bleach bath if it keeps the evil red turf out of the tank. If that seems too cruel perhaps I’d go soft and just pull the snails out of their shells and call them “nudibranch .” Not a big fan of turf algae :)
