Hello all. New here. My tank has been up for about 4 months now. I added ARC Reef purple helix about 3 months ago. Now there is a purple and dark red algae bloom. I know coraline algae is suppose to be hard and crusty. Mine seems to have hairs flowing on certain spots. Any Help is mich appreciated.

That looks like cyano bacteria not turf or corraline algae. What are your PO4 and NO3 levels?

I would recommend increasing flow to the areas with the cyano and decrease nutrients a little if possible (depending on where they are now).

The rocks appear to indicate a new tank. This is sometimes part of the new tank uglies we all get and may pass with continued good husbandry.

That's not coralline. Increase your flow and keep up with water quality.

On the side note, just curious on your tank filtration and lighting. I am amazed after four months and your rocks still remain at that white-ish coloring stage.

I just have a skimmer with carbon in filter socks. I have kept the light off since the diatom bloom started. Phosphate is 1 and nitrate is about 10-20
