Can anyone tell me if they are significantly different? My Achilles tang loves the red, but I was wondering if the other types were also needed.

I've been wondering the same thing - I usually alternate between the three and have noticed the packaging shows different nutrition values for each, and different brands can show wildly different values for the same algae types. So...?

Fortunately, my gang doesn't care which one is on the clip. Oddly enough, they will not eat live macro from the clip.

I have an orangeshoulder, a tomini, a yellow, and achilles tang that just go crazy for red. They wouldn't touch the live macro either. I soak the red in Brightwells Multi-Vitamin Supplement just in case it's missing something.

How long does the red and brown last in the water before they fall apart? The green I use lasts up to 2 days in the tank.

I put the red in before work around 8am and its pretty much gone by 6 or 7pm. I give my fish seaweed everyday.

2 days!?!?!?!? Wow. I have 2 tangs in my tank and I can serve them a full sheet within a few hours. My naso is about 8" and my Atlantic blue is 4" I usually feed 1/4 sheet at a time and its gone in a few mins. I can't even use a clip.

And green or purple don't matter to mine. Either way they treat it like crack.

i had a blue eye kole tang and bought some brown sheets and he never touched it. snails and hermit crabs loved it.

One of my tangs is a Yellow Eye Kole - he was the first tang in the tank and completely ignored the algae clip too. I've recently added two juvenile tangs - a yellow and a naso - they understood the clip, and now the Kole does too. The three of them go completely crazy when the loaded clip appears. It certainly doesn't last long!

Mine like both store bought and naturally grown. I (my fish) like the julian sprung green sea veggies, but the purple just falls apart once it hits the water. i also soak mine in garlic gaurd every so often...

Everything in my tank loves the green and eat it right out of my hand. I've never used a clip. Just turn pumps off and crumble and tank goes crazy)

The julian sprung seaweed is not liked by my fish at all and I don't like how it falls apart either.

I used to feed all three Julian sprung "SeaVeggies".

However then I realized that the green was probably the same species as the purple, the purple turns green during the processing, also the genera is the same - although they label the Porphyra (spelling, sorry) sp. on the purple.

I just go to the grocery store now, and I buy all the different kinds of algae that they sell. I let a mix of vitamins soak, and dry into the algae before feeding it as well.

I used to grow macros in tank - and Im hoping to get back to this.

Keeping tangs well (which I like to think I do - 10" blue hippo, chevron, clown, purple) hinges on providing them with food almost constantly of the highest quality (all while giving them a large space and maintaining h2o quality as much as possible.)

Do you just buy nori from the asian section of the supermarket?
