So i maybe upgrading to a bigger tank and have a drilled sump laying around and was thinking up redesigning the sump. Its a 20g Drilled sump and want to have a small fuge in the center and then skimmer and what not on the other end. In no way am i master builder, I had google sketch and was playing around what i have.

The design seems cool. I use a 20 gallon sump. The only area I see that may cause issue is the initial water inlet. I am concerned that the water entering the sump will gurgle on that top plate. If the top plate is an essential part of your design then you may be able to tweak it... I just think allowing the water to spill into a deeper chamber or using a dock system will prevent any loud gurgle at the sump. Just a thought.

I like your creative spirit. Good luck reefer.

Well I had my buddy who builds tanks and sumps look over and since that convo I completely redid. The sump has the entry point where it trickles down over bio balls.
This is what it looks like now that I redid it.

You're better off not putting the baffles on the drain side like your original plans. I've noticed ALOT of people put baffles on either side of the refuge at the same height. I dunno why tho, if you consider the water is going to fill the rufuge then just skim across the top. Mine will have a baffle with a seperation between the top and bottom where the water will flow thru then up to get over the rear baffle. Makes more sense

I like the design ideas, but there are a few flaws that I see. I am assuming the panels are siliconed or glued in place...

1. I'd consider leaving out the bio-balls as they tend to just catch detritus and cause nitrate issues in the long run.

2. On the new design, how will you clean out the far right baffles if it is ever needed without taking down the entire sump to spray it out?

Thanks guys!!! Bio balls won't be used. Its and open spot for media of any sort. To remove them never honestly thought of it.. must slipped my mind . Maybe grooved and not permantly attached.

OK messed around a little bit. Takes a bit to get use to google sketch but helpful

If you cant tell the left is the in-let. The first open spot will be for heater and any other probe. Center is fuge or just live rock, then right is the exit and where the skimmer would go. Yes it would be great to have a blank canvas but working with what I have and improving it.

To me it looks like the middle section will be a stagnant pool of water with the flow of water going over it....

Maybe try to get the flow of water entering the center section at a lower point
