we didn't use little shims like that. Instead, we ripped down 1x1s and 4x4s into shims. We were going over a floor we tiled ourselves in a room we remodeled from studs in; room had been a porch so while we ground the underlayment concrete high spots and filled low spots before tiling with travertine, we still didn't have any where near level floor. Shimmed out the entire tank stand length, for support on all sides and level front to back, side to side. We painted white to protect wood. Then once we had these huge shims built in rectangle and taped down shims (painters tape), we set the stand on top of shims careful not to slide any shims. Double checked level. Then tank went on top of stand. Then removed visible tape, but the other tape will be under there forever. Where the main supports came down, our "shims" were made from crossgrain 4x4. Wood is strongest that direction. Research construction because it applies, even though your (and our) application is for aquarium stand.
