RedSea Max E170 pump needing to be reset after every power down.

I recently purchased the RedSea Max E170. The return pump works, but everytime I power down and power up, it doesn't work. I need to open the pump and compress a "white dot" (which is located in the center of the pump) back into the pump, to get it to turn on. What is this "white dot", a safety trigger? why would it keep popping out? Anyway to fix it?

Red Sea doesn't say what brand pumps they use in this AIO. Any info printed on the pump itself? Also a pic would be helpful.

Nothing useful printed on the pump. Here is a picture. The "white dot" is in the center

It might be a Sicce pump. And the white dot looks like one end of the impeller shaft. It suggests that perhaps the impeller bearing has failed. In any case that's not normal operation. If this was a new purchase, Red Sea should replace the pump. I've found their US customer service to be pretty good in the past. If it's not new you could replace the pump with any similarly rated one that will fit. (Again, not entirely sure this is a Sicce, but Sicces are actually really good pumps, reliable and efficient. ) You could also disassemble this pump and see if the cause for its malfunctioning is identifiable; that faceplate should pull off.

Excellent, thanks for the info. It is a brand new pump, just setup the system last week Wednesday, so they should have no problem replacing it
