I've had the Max E260 set up without a sump for a year now and all is well. Finally ready to make the upgrade to a sump. Anyone had experience with the RedSea sump upgrade kit, or has anyone used another sump in the Max E260? Looking for ideas- I dont really need the RO reservoir and if I went with the RedSea kit Id use it as a refugium.

Lucky you!! I have the E-260 and the sump upgrade. It's easy to install, you need to pay attention to the installation of the drains and return pipes as they have 2 sets of threads, one for the rest of the plumbing and one for the bulkhead. What else you'd like to know?

Just mainly asking how you like the sump. Is it functional, quiet, enough room for probes etc. I have a Bubble Magnus Curve 5 skimmer and a jabeo DCT-6000 return pump to go in it. Just wasnt sure if I should go Red sea or find another sump of similiar size.

I really like it, makes water changes easy. I use my mixing pump with a 4 foot tube on it to pump water out of the sump, (after putting my return pump to feed mode which slows it down), then pump good water back in. The main thing is it's made for the stand, there is space to put probes. I have a reef octopus 110 skimmer and a Vectra S1 return pump. The piping kit fits perfectly in it.

I also have the Red sea max e260, and i ran it without a sump for a while, but i upgraded and i bought the Synergy Reef TS-26 sump and love it, it looks great, and its pretty easy to set up when you get it in the right to left configuration. You would just need the plumbing kit for the drains, and two adapter pieces underneath to connect your own plumbing. here is a picture from when i set it up. it's been about 4 months and i still love it.

Looks great, i was thinking maybe more water volume in the sump as well. Thanks for sending picture, helps alot in understanding
You'll defiantly get more water volume with the sump I have. it says its 26 gallons, but that's if its filled all the way up. i probably have about 15 gallons in it or so. nice big fuge as well instead of filter socks, since its set up for a triton method, but they have the same option with filter socks and a smaller section for a fuge.. it was the largest i could go with in the cabinet with the ATO container as well. and id say this sump is quite a bit bigger than the sump red sea sells. I've seen a ton of comments that say the build quality is much better than the trigger sumps and i must agree as well. hope that helps a little!

What adapters are you using to connect the Red Sea pipe to your own pvc pipe and fittings?
