I use the RS Reef Care Program; however, my comments come with two caveats: I still consider myself a newbie (year and half in to this) and the Red Sea program is the only thing I’ve ever used. So take this with a grain of salt – pun intended!
When it came time to start dosing, I elected to commit to the program as well, simply because it seemed to make sense. In hindsight, I would probably do it differently and more economically (like using Randy’s formulas for dosing as an example) but at this point, I’ve had such success, I’m afraid to change anything.
I do not use the NoPox because, knock on wood, I’ve never had an algae problem. The other thing I’ve found I do not need is the part C – magnesium. My regular water changes keep the mag very stable, so I simply do not need to supplement. I dose the Colors as recommended, but I use the Energy products sparingly and actually a little less than the RS recommendations.
My conclusion: I would probably agree with Randy’s comments above. The research I’ve done also confirms Randy’s suspicions. Not sure there is a significant difference overall between the RS program and others. But as I said, it’s the only program I’ve used and have had great success. Just my opinion, and as with everything else I’ve found in this hobby, ask 10 people one question, and you’ll get 12 answers!
