Hi Reefers, I've had my Reefer 250 for 6 months now. Started with one MP40 and have since added a second on controlled by an ApexJr. I notice even on the lowest setting of 20% things get thrashed around a bit during high points of certain flow. I have a rainbow nem, who hasn't moved at all and seems to like the flow as well as my acros which are growing well.

My question is, is there an ideal flow pattern with 2 MP40's for this tank? Are 2 MP40's overkill? (I hear the mp10's had magnetic issues holding on, otherwise I would've went that route) Mine are on opposite sides of the tank a few inches from the top and off center from each other. I see a few folks who have theres on the back of the tank as well. I tried that placement and it was crazy turbulent in the front of the tank.

I've also read about the EcoSmart mode, but even on their site, theres not that much info about it. http://ecotechmarine.com/ecosmart/vortech-ecosmart-driver/ecosmart-modes

I would have thought the mp40s were over kill and two mp10s would have been sufficient...what are they like on their lowest setting? But if you upgrade in the future you can keep them atleast

I think it might be a tad too much, but some people get it to work out. In this case the placement is almost always on the back wall. Maybe try another height?

I run 2 mp10's on my Reefer 250 and they hold just fine. And I don't even run them on 100 %, mostly 60-70 depending on the program.

Good luck.

Yeah I was thinking about it being overkill as well, but I'd rather have more and not use it than not enough and need more.

Do you notice a lot of sand displacement in the front with the MP's on the back glass? I'm guessing I'll need to run them at the lowest setting also.

Too much flow is kind of subjective. If your corals enjoy it and a little sand is moved then no big deal. I'm running a MP40WES and a MP40WQD on a standard 29 gallon tank. As said before I'd rather have the power and not use it rather than not have the power and need it.

Thanks Adam,

How does your slave MP40 flow scheme look like? I have mine all antisync. Do you experiment with just other flow settings or stick with antisync?
