RedSea Reefer 350 TS-26 build

So this was my first time taking something like this on. I definitely loved and hated it. Things just don't always go as planned. Luckily this worked out! I just wasn't happy with the sump that came with the Red Sea tank. It didn't allow for a true refugim or any other modifications for that matter. I settled on the amazing TS-26 from synergy reef. I want to take a moment to send a special thank you to @Kryssie for answering so many of my private messages! She didn't know me one bit, but she graciously answered every question I threw at her. Materials needed to complete the build:
1" schedule 40 pvc
3/4" schedule 40 pvc
(3) 1" unions
(1) 3/4" union
(3) Replacement part R42221
(1) 3/4" Pvc Coupler threaded
(2) 3/4" MPT x 1" SLIP adapter
Teflon Tape
3/4" Gate valve
1" Gate Valve
(3) 3/4" pvc elbows

First part of this was to remove the old sump. This took some time. I turned all the pumps off and let it settle. Removed all the livestock and equipment and used a shop vac to remove all the water. I relocated the heater to the tank to keep the corals and fish stable during this undertaking.

This next step was to deal with the current plumbing. This wasn't hard at all. Just has to unscrew the stock fittings. There was a leak caused by the o-ring getting a little mangled when I tried to unscrew the main drain line. After a little googling I found that this was a common problem that was easily fixed with a little silicone. So I took the obligatory "in the middle of the project trip" to the hardware store to grab some 100% silicone.

While the silicone dried a little I went ahead and prepped these three pieces. To create the connections needed for standard plumbing. The only prep work required was removing the end to expose the threads.

I returned to these connections and tried them real good with a micro fiber cloth.

The next step was wrapping the teflon tape around the threads of the couplers and connecting them to the replacement parts. I wrapped it around the couplers about 4 times.

Once it was all wrapped I connected the couplers to the tank. Easy enough.

Then came the fun part! And by fun I mean the much longer than I expected potential nervous breakdown part. After tons of measuring, cutting, and re-cutting it was time to dry fit the parts. This took me a few hours. Things just weren't lining up. I stuck with it and ended up with this masterpiece.

After admiring my handiwork, I built up the courage to take it apart and apply the pvc primer and cement pictured below. Open a window and turn on the fans when you do this. These fumes and nothing to play with. Once the glue was applied I let it sit overnight.

The next step was to muster the courage to fill it with water. I was worried about nothing. There aren't any leaks! So after weeks of waiting and ordering and waiting and researching and waiting and ordering more pvc all of it has finally come together. Tonight I will let the dust settle and enjoy the feeling of completing my first sump build. Happy reefing folks!

I did something similar but would like to use those grey fittings that connect Metric pipe to Standard. where did you get them?

@ROB_310 they are metric. You have to wrap the threads a few times (8x) in teflon tape but it works fine. I used the mega teflon tape and wrapped it 4 times.

Does your main 1 inch drain line get pushed off due to the unions?
