Hello everyone, I've been a follower of R2R for a long time now, and been following and reading through the forum for most of my queries and info.
I read couple of threads regarding sump setup and saw many conflicting ideas, tried to ask the reefer community around me and everyone had a different idea as well, I thought I'd make a post here with my specific issue and see what thoughts the forum would have about it.
So I have a redsea reefer 750XXL, as you know it comes with its own complete sump.
I'm not having any major problem with my sump, but I just wanted to see if there's any sort of modification I can do that will improve the efficiency of my sump.
Below is a picture of my current setup of the sump
So first is the drain section/overflow, then I have 4 filter cups that are currently mostly empty and I occasionally use some filter floss or poly filters when I over disturb my sand or whatever.
The water coming into this section is only from the emergency drain pipe, the main overflow pipe comes directly into my clarisea SK-1500 roller, after the clarisea to the left you can see some rock and I have an egg crate over there and made a refugium of that section, in the refugium section I also have a reactor running either GFO or active carbon, and I've also a manifold there just so I can have more water circulation in that area, after this section there's a big partition that comes with the redsea reefer sump that divides the area into 2 sections, the section in the back I have my skimmer running in and another reactor left to the skimmer that runs either GFO/active carbon, and at the last comes the return section.
So that's the whole sump setup I have now, I hope my explanation made the picture a bit more clear and more understanding.
So I would like to have any sort of suggestion that would improve my sump setup, I was thinking to cut out the filter cup section totally out and pull the clarisea further right, and make the rest of the front area into a large refugium. If anyone has any tip or advise into how I can change the sump to make it more efficient it'll be highly appreciated.
