Hi,
Recently got a new upgrade reef tank!! Set up was yesterday.. but I can stop it making loud noises!!!

I managed to stop it making like bubble noises in sump, someone said gotta to match the speed of the over flow to the return flow.. but how can I measure that to match it!!!

Most annoying thing is the tank is in my bedroom!! Trying to sleep with that noise is NOT GOOD!!!!

Close the gate valve fully and begin opening it very slowly and in small, precise increments until your desired equilibrium is met.
What about the return flow.. I can control that too.. shall I start that from 0 going up wards ?

I’ve got the 435xl, I’ll twist the gate value four to five notches, then wait a few minutes, then tune it again if I need too. Too many bubbles, simple undo the last step.

make sure you don’t have a wave pump blowing towards your return at the top of your tank. I’ve done this, this creates to much water flow at the down spout.

It depends on what pump you're using. Every reefer tank comes with a gph turnover rating that you can use as a reference.

Every time you stop the return pump you will have the same issue, I do on the reefer 170 I have. It only stays quiet for a day or two, then adjust. Then water change, then it's out of whack by the next day, rinse and repeat. I have the parts to change to a gate valve, just been too lazy. Welcome to another flaw in the red sea system, besides the ato unit and particle board stands

Look in your manual, it'll tell you what the recommended flow through your sump should be. Match your return as close as possible to that.

Once you have that dialed in,turn the gate valve all the way to the right. That'll close off the main drain line almost completely, sending the excess water down the emergency pipe. Once you get to that point, turn back the gate valve to the left slightly until the water level is just slightly below the intake of the emergency pipe, and it'll be completely quiet.

Red Sea recommends going the other way - starting with the gate valve completely open, and then slowly dialing it back until the water level raises - but there's honestly quite a bit of play to that valve. Going at it that way takes forever and feels like it'll never get quiet. So start with the end point, and slowly dial back until you get to the right level. Then your tank will be silent.
