RedSea ReefLED mounting arm in water?

Hi everyone,

When I was setting up my tank, I (
foolishly) flipped the mounting bracket on my RedSea ReefLED 90 mounting arm so the metal arm sits on the inside of the tank. This allowed me to put the tank flush against the wall rather than leaving ~2 inches behind the tank for the bracket. See below for some pictures to help illustrate what’s going on.

It’s been up and running like this for ~5 weeks. I’m worried about potential toxicity leaching from the metal mounting arm into the water. Does anyone know if the bracket and mounting arm are reef safe? If not, is there a way I can seal it somehow? The metal seems to be coated or treated but I’m not sure what it’s coated with. I really would prefer to keep the tank flush to the wall.

I emailed RedSea asking but I don’t think they’ve looked into it, I got a generic “that’s not the intended use so we don’t recommend that”.

Any advice helps.

You could place the portion that would normally be in water inside a thick polymer bag. It might be reef-safe or it may not. Generally only things like titanium, ceramic and plastic won't leech into the tank eventually.

That’s a great idea, maybe something like this? Put two or three on for redundancy and heat seal them with a hairdryer?

Anything heavy duty should work fine. You may want to modify the screw pegs by gluing a flat circular piece of plastic on the pointy end such that they don't penetrate the bag.
