So ive been having a conversation with Jeff over @CoralVue about this and im interested to see if anybody has done it before. I bought a redsea RSK and after running it for the last month im quickly realizing its not the quietest thing in the world. Im assuming this is because the pump itself is AC driven. The rest of my tank runs on dc power pumps and powerheads so if i turn the skimmer off the tank is dead silent with the skimmer on I hear a pretty noticeable hum which is more of a first world problem than anything else.

Im wondering if skimmer pumps from other manufacturers will work with the layout of the rsk? Im considering either a varios-S2 or varios -S4

I have the same skimmer. Before that I was running the Bubble Magus Curve 5 skimmer which really was silent.
I went with the RSK300 because of the reviews and the built in neck cleaner.
I notice an audible hum, which took me by surprise since reviews stated it was silent.
It's louder than my return pump. Which is a no name chinese knock off.
Though i must say it skims like a beast and is easy to clean and adjust.

same here im using a your choice aquatics dc return pump which is super quiet, youre right it skims like a champ and the adjustments are painless which is why i want to keep it so badly

I would think a skimmer DC pump in the same size as Sicce should be very quiet?

The humming is due to how they built the skimmer and how the pump sits on the body. You can’t put a different pump into a skimmer. All skimmers with internal pumps are specifically built to house that pump.

anyone find a compatible pump for the RSK-300? Mine is now making a very loud humming noise. Its been in use for about 15 months now, I just cleaned it... soaked it in citric acid for a few hours but still very loud.
It looks like Sicce now has a DC option for their skimmer motors but i think the outlet is offset to the side and the original sicce pump outlet is centered...

Sicce now sells a dc psk. I think it’s $275. It’s a direct replacement for the ac psk pumps. BRS has it on the site if your search for it.

Edit..$299, also Sicce makes the pumps in the RSK skimmers.

Thanks. I’ve seen those, but I am just wondering if anyone has put one in an RSK300 versus a larger version, which ReefBuilders did a while back.
