Hello i have the red sea pro salt. I had a quick question on mixing. How much salt should i add to ro water? Like how much salt mix per gallon of water or 5 gallon bucket? I have just been testing after heaps added until im at 1.026/25 . I have a precise scale that can weigh in gram up to 30 lbs . Dry weight or volume would be a help for those water changes instead of eyeballing and retesting

I think the Red Sea directions are 500g salt / 12 ounces of water. But it seems like the rule of thumb for salt is around 1/2 cup per gallon of water

Much easier to just get a measuring cup(I have a 3 cup),get 2 1/2 cups of salt for 5gal of ro/di.Mix in 5gal bucket and heat at same temp as tank.1/2 cup for every gal of water.

Nothing wrong with that. Use cups as a rough guide and finish off with a measurement.

I know this an old thread but I’m banging my head against the wall to try to reconcile the instructions on the bucket with how much is in the bucket.

I must be doing something wrong in my calculations. I feel dumb. I need help :)

I’m trying to figure out how many grams of salt per gallon is required.

500 g salt per 12 oz water. 1 gallon is 128 oz. Take 128 and divide by 12 and then multiple by 500 g gives a result of 5333 g salt per gallon water. The bucket is 7000 grams. This doesn’t jive with the bucket saying it’ll make 47-55 gallons.

What am I doing wrong???

The directions state 41.6 grams per litre
There are 3.79 litres in a gallon.

So 157.7 grams per gallon

7000g divided by 157.7 = 44 gals per 7kg or
22000g divided by 157.7 = 140 gals per 22kg bucket

General rule of thumb is 1/2C per gallon pf water. 1/2C is roughly 115 grams.

Ive honestly never read the directions on red sea, just did the usual 1/2c per gallon.
