Anyone out there ever had a Redstripe Hogfish. Tell me about them from personal experience. Aggressive? Open water swimmer? Shy?

Thank you so much for your time

Bodianus sepiacaudus was a little too aggressive for my tank. I would classify their aggression as somewhere in between semiaggressive and aggressive.

They are active swimmers and quite hardy. They are jumpers and need a covered tank.

I have a Bodianus neoopercularis in my tank right now...he's very active, seems to get along with the two designer clowns in my tank and doesn't bother the coral...he will pick up a snail every once in a while and throw it around. I do keep my tank covered but he doesn't spook very easily, but better safe than sorry. He's an active swimmer and gets curious when I get close to the tank. Here's a crappy iPhone pic of him.

LEMEC thanks!!!!!!!! I got one yesterday and he is amazing! A little skittish right now but is one cool fish. He ate well today.

I have it in my tank... one of the peaceful tank mates i have... get aggressive on one of my wrasses while eating that too when my wrasse teases him... he eats well and dont much on my inverts and shrimps... beautiful fish i love him in tank and is open swimmer

My Bodianus opercularis "owns the tank". He is very striking and lives in general peace with a Coral Beauty, Starry Blenny, Clown Goby, Mandarin, Bangaii cardianl & Yellow Assessor.

That said, he badgered my C.Johnsoni (rare fairy wrasse) to death :(

And he ate every shrimp, crab and snail in the tank!

So, not "blood thirsty" but definitely a predator.

Thanks for all the info -- Its weird cause Liveaquaria puts them in the peaceful category
