I have one that started out eating mysis but has since quit during QT with copper. Made it 14 days.

anyway he is in an observation tank with sand rock and I added somewhere around 1000 amphipods for a little over 30 days now

It was also suggested to try white worms.

Well he loves them. I think he has a crack I mean white worm addiction. So now I’m keeping two white worm cultures.

so my questions:

1) How have folks who have kept these long term transitioned them to frozen foods?

I have tried frozen brine, frozen mysis, pe calanous, frozen baby brine without any feeding response.
A friend suggested frozen cyclops. He seems interested and I think feeds but they are so small it’s hard to tell.

2) I was thinking of one of the in tank brine shrimp hatcheries to see if he has any interest in that.

I would like to know peoples experience with them both retail and DIY.

I havent kept that species but i did keep anampses lineatus for a year, it was already eating when i got her however. I think maybe mixing some frozen food with the live food may entice him to eat it if he goes into some form of a feeding frenzy. Maybe youve tried that already though. Good luck!

Yep I already tried that. He will sometimes go after the mysis that look sort of like the worms but then spits them out

I would keep up the white worms as it seems like it may not be that difficult to keep and he eats them both bonuses. Feed him some smaller stuff than mysis along with the worms. It’s typical behavior for them to try to eat and spit out. I think it might be like people; we could eat the tail of a shrimp, but do you really want to.

So I got a few more cubes of cyclops from a buddy and he seems to be eating that. So I have ordered some more. My main concern was moving him to the display tank. Lots of tangs. I think the worms would get picked off faster than he could get to them. But am thinking the cyplops and or baby brine would be mostly ignored as the tangs are in the 4-6" range.

I'm glad you got it eating worms, that's quite the achievement! I would avoid adding him to the display until he is completely adjusted to frozen food. I've moved leopard wrasses and mandarins too quickly and they would hide or bury as the more aggressive fish ate even though they were adjusted in QT.

In QT, I tend to have good luck feed Anampses with Mysis+Calanus (the dual packs sold by PE). But they do need to be fed a good 5+ times/day to keep their weight up like this.

Thanks! @evolved I will up the feedings. I have been doing 3x day but can up it. I have been wfh for the past couple of years anyway -- before it was cool lol.. -- so definitely not a problem. Surprisingly it has become quite tame now.

Yep definitely. Had no plans on moving him until I'm convinced he is able to compete and I am capable of taking care of him in the bigger tank.

Seems to have decided to like Reef Caviar too all of the sudden. For weeks ignored or spit it out. Now eating it. Go figure.
