I have some green hair algae and cyano growing. I currently have the light on for 8 hours a day. Using a current usa. tank also includes some soft and lps corals as well. How much should i reduce my lighting without affecting the corals...

Having same issue.. same light as well. Following thread.

I went to my LFS and showed him a picture of my algae and he told me to put an emerald crab in there. I purchased him and this guy is going to town on the algae

What kind of algae do you have?

l agree with Salty. The light isn’t the Main/only problem. l have the same light running (was 10hr whites, 15hr total) now 8hr white, 15 1/2hr total. l also have Nutrients off the charts. What do you have to take care of the algae? Also how old is your tank?

The tank is one year old. Had two turbo snails but they died last week. Now only have one herrmit crab and a cleaner shrimp.

Just tested the tank here's what I got
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
Ph 7.8
Salinity 1.026
Temp 80
Phosphate 0
Alk 1400
Calcium 405
Mag 1400

If you'd like , put up a picture and we'll see what we can suggest.

I'd bet the GHA has sucked the N/P
Down to the undetectable level.

I've had to restart the tank a time or five , Esp when I first started.
I may actually be restarting one again soon too.

Is that cyano or the goofy red fuzz algae there on the rock?
I have that stuff. Annoying.

Right now I'd say that's not bad at all.
Thank you tooth brush right?

My gut says , look at your source water.

Personally every reef tank is going to have algae. The key is to have a crew to take care of the algae as it grows. L think you could get a bigger cuc.
