I sponsor the Marine Biology Club at my high school and we we're approached about being given a Red Sea S-400.

The only catch, the previous owner ran copper in the system.

Has anyone been successful (for the sake of definition I am calling "success" more than 1 year) with a reef tank after having copper in it?

If you have an tips please pass them on.

I ran cupramine for 2 months and came back with reef strong after couple 100% water change and carbon with polyfilter and caprisorb. (Rocks and sand was there whole time too) Not sure what happens when you use it for super long term tho. Try fill it up and do copper test simple.

You can clean the tank but you will need new rocks and sand for sure.

It’s totally a myth that tanks can never be used as a Reef after copper. I agree about the rock and sand but everything else is fine after washing. You can always add a bag of cuprisorb as well to be extra sure.
