Did you ever figure out if you had cyano or coraline algae?

Did you ever figure out if you had cyano or coraline algae?

Well they told me that cyano is scratched off and coraline algae is not. By scratching the rocks this "purpleish" color is slowly removed. So i guess is cyano then?

Not quite,

You'll scratch off coraline with effort. Cyano will literally brush off with a finger tip with little effort.

Then is coralline what i have.

So smell does not come from cyano either :/

1. Smell continues even after water change and maintenance. Is constantly there whatever you do.
2. Yes i do run carbon. Brand mentioned above

Take a turkey baster submerge it fill it with water then blast a rock if it’s cyano it will blow off

Well loss of a fish i have every now and then, but smell is something constantly.. it is there for months now. Refugium i dont have. Algae problem i also dont have. Ill attach some photos that may help...

It's got to be the output air from your skimmer.

Bad smell is a tank self-defense by your tank from unwanted attention: wife, kids etc..

So all natural and good!

Carbon is a huge help with this, reason I use ChemiPure Blue year round
