Hello, I just purchased the proton V2+ and started up a new tank. 2 fish have been added, and some polyps and leathers.

Tank will be LPS Dominate and softies, and a few pcs of Monti Cap SPS, etc

When searching the threads here, I do not see the heights most people run their LED's and levels.

I found this thread here , and post #7 so start with but the height and depth to sand bed is not mentioned.

I have a 65G Corner over flow, that measures 18" from front to back, and 36" wide. The tank is 24" tall.

I'm using the middle setting for the height of the light. Should I be on the middle setting which is around 8-1/2" off the water. The higher mounting option puts the light 11-1/2" off the water.

Anyone have a starting point then their custom mode?

I'm using their custom mode, which the reds/ green give it alittle disco effect.

I like the look of the Kessil's , I've had them in the past, so what setting would be close to those?

Does the blue lights grow coral? So if I use the blue channel at 40% and the white turned down to give it that 14k to 20k look , would that be ok?

I went onto the sunny setting, and adjusted the colors to what I like, and it seems I like the Blues/ Cool Blues/ Violet around 65% to 80% and the whites around 10%
At these settings, would it be best to mount the light higher upto the 11-1/2" option?

According to post #7 on the link above, do I run the cool blues and violets along with the CH3 the Blues and whites?

Thanks for the help, I have close to 2K post on Reef Central, but joined this site as it looks just as informative.

Welcome to R2R! I'm a long time member on RC as well. I joined that site in 2006. This really is a great forum with a fantastic group of people running the show.

I don't use that light but researched it loads before buying my current lighting. That light was recommended to me by a coral vendor on here. You could send Adam @Battlecorals a pm for some info on this light. I know he uses these and recommends them. Pretty sure he runs his at 100% on all channels. He also mounts his higher for more coverage though.

You could also post this in reefbreeders vendor forum. They're very responsive from what I've seen.

Thanks for the help I appreciate it

IS their a Reef Breeders Forum here?

I remember RC had one, but it doesn't look like it anymore

I just moved the light up to the top mounting option, it's 11" high now, and the disco effect is much better

Yes, under manufacturers. The higher you mount the better up to about 20" I think. I can only go about 8.5 and wish I could get it higher for better color mixing. They're powerful lights so take it easy. I have a 72" tank that is 27" tall with one centered 48" V2 and can keep LPS all the way at the ends of the tank on the sand bed. I max mine out at 15% white 12% on red and green, and 48% on the other three channels.

Wow ok thanks for the info. I just put in some polyps and a leather, and I put the leather up on the top of the rock. Maybe I should move it down for a while. It hasn't opened since I got it home. The person I bought it off of had it under 2 Chinese fixtures about 12" off the water.

I agree with the height, the coloring and blending look allot better higher now. I have very little disco effect also, with red/greens max out only during peak hours to 10%

I adjusted the schedule to start at noon and end at 10pm. I have peak at 5pm when I return home from work, so I can view the tank as it's leak hours for a hour or two and it starts to ramp down

You could probably move the leather down, IMO. The photon v2 is a powerful light after all.

Will do thank you

I had Kessil A360WE and 160's in the past. So I have to adjust my thinking to these are more powerful when placing coral.

They are totally different lights than Kessils. I use Kessil 360s now with 4 T5 bulbs to supplement them. Or maybe the Kessils are supplementing my T5s:confused: Really not sure to be honest.

I do have a halide/T5 lighting fixture on the way. The best tank I ever kept had 12k Reeflux halides and T5 actinics over it;)

Hello and welcome to R2R! First of all, thank you for Choosing ReefBreeders to Power Your Tank!

To answer your question on the disco effect- the reds and greens tend to spotlight in new tanks. Assuming you have brand new white rock and sand, you will see those colors reflect. You can simply turn the reds and greens off for now. Once your tank is more established and your rock turns purple with coraline, you can turn the reds and greens back on, and there won't be much of a noticeable spotlight effect, since the purple coraline algae doesn't reflect red and green back as much as new white rock.

Your settings are really high for your tank! Keep everything at 20% until everything has cycled and you have a decent number of corals in your tank. Then slowly ramp the light up over several weeks to acclimate your corals. These are very powerful lights, and starting at 80% can and will shock your corals. Just take it slow and acclimate your corals and they will do all right :)

Here is a link to our FAQ, there is a section that breaks down exactly what each color in our layout targets: https://www.reefbreeders.com/faq/

If you have any other questions just let me know, I am happy to help!

Ok thanks ! I appreciate the support.

I'll adjust them today

My leather has opened up yet, probably because I have the lights to powerful, and the system is to clean being a new tank, low nutrients

I love the lights !

Thanks for the help!

I'll adjust them down today
