Reef Brite Only Adequate?

I am looking to light a 180 gallon FOWLR. I have a mat of GSP still in the tank and want to keep it growing. Would a single 50/50 Reef Brite 72" strip suffice?

I have one of their 24” lumi lite pro 50/50 strips on a 29g for almost 2 years. It grows coraline out the wazoo and I have a huge explosion of mushrooms and a candy cane that’s done really well. I’m not sure it would be strong enough to reach the bottom of your much larger tank but I don’t think gsp requires a whole bunch of light either. I think these lights are more to supplement rather than be the only light source. I ended up with this light pretty cheap as an open box deal from BRS and it’s done well by itself on my small tank. Again, not sure how it would be for your much larger tank.

Thank you for your response! I have the GSP near the top so I dont think it will have any problems.

How do you like the light? I am looking for a natural daylight, not overly blue. The pro you can dim each channel correct? How does that work for you?

I actually like it a lot for my 29g. It’s just an observation tank for newcomers and I leave in a few coral pieces and live rock to make it pretty and comfortable for the fish.
The pro version has the blue and white on different channels. It’s just a button with 4 different levels of brightness. one click is the brightest and the more you click, the dimmer it gets. I have the blue on 1, brightest, and the white on 2, second brightest.
That whole paragraph sounds like a 1st grade wrote it but I can’t seem to find my adult words right now...hope this helps. Let me know if something doesn’t make sense!

I ended up going with the two lumi light non pro version. I am using 1 50/50 at max and 1 white daylight dimmed slightly. Im loving the color scheme and its very bright.

BRS mentions the light should pull 1 watt per inch meaning two 72" should get well over 100 watts. The apex and verified with kill o watt, is measuring only 30 watts per fixture. Does this make sense? Anybody else using these?

Are you sure that is for LED's and not t5's?

I got the info from reef brite, 72” is 33 watts which is exactly what I’m seeing

Approximate Power Consumption - 1W per inch (example - 24" Lumi Lite uses about 24 watts)
24 diodes per foot..

Care to count the number of diodes?
Also what exactly is the output on the power brick.. mA's and voltage..
Thing w/ the longer ones is more than likely it is a series/parallel arrangement..
Hard to drive 144 diodes in series..

It's very likely they are just 12V constant voltage BUT the above will answer that..
Then we can see what's going on.

Good chance it's just a poor spec-d (under amped real output) power supply.

Have any full tank shots under your full lighting you can share? I'm looking at these lights for a build I'm planning now.

Sure! The algae makes it look a little yellow/green. I usually run the whites at 75% with the Bluetooth controller but I’m running fluconazole so max lighting

Yes both 100%, pretty good shimmer actually , 50 par at bottom of 24” tank if that matters

Looking at those photos closer, it looks like they are very close to the water. How far above the surface do you have them?
