Hi Folks, as an custom LED enthusiast, I understand the Reef Brite XHO BLUE is great for photography. Does any one have a spectrum chart or LED count on any of these fixtures?

TIA!

By great do you mean a pain? Modern image sensors can take issue with the strong blue channel and reproducing the colours your eyes see become difficult. You may want to use a blue light filter (Looks orange/yellow) to block a little of the strong blue. Also, shoot in RAW so you can adjust your WB properly after the fact. Have fun!

I'm not really sure, haha... Thanks for the response!

Basically, I have done what you said and do not yield the results of others. I have noticed a lot of really good pictures from under Reef Brites, as well as a couple contacts in my local reefing circle swear by them for great photos (and their photos look great). I am, however, convinced these folks do at least a little post processing. I did start a similar thread in the photography forum, but did not get very much further than "set my white balance" and "post-process"....

So basically I am looking for an LED count, or a spectrum analysis so I can build my own and see for myself. From their spec sheets, they use 3watt LEDs, which I can (almost) guarantee I have everything needed in my workshop.

Good call on the filter, I do have some gels, I will try that!

My photos under RB XHO's are unusable without some sort of blue light filter on the camera. And that's with post processing which is white balance adjustment.

Thanks for the response! That is great feedback.

Do your Reef Brites have any specs on them at all? I'm looking to build a RB Clone (so to speak) to see for myself :)

Ugh yea it's a royal pain (get it? Lol) to shoot under these leds. I've heard using a filter makes it a lot easier but I have never tried

I have a reefbrite tech strip in 440nm blue and my cellphone camera can’t handle it.

LOL, yeah, I get it...

Okay, so if this is a common mindset, why are the folks in my local circles claiming otherwise??? (that said, they won't give me any real specifics)...

A mixture of lights that also include reef brites. If using a dslr you could also use a grey card and adjust the white balance on the camera. This makes the corals look really good as well.

Thanks, but, once again, I'm not looking for photography advice (I would have actually appreciated this information in my similar post in the photography forum). I am looking for information on these light fixtures so I can recreate the environment myself. On this note, this is pretty much what I need to do now. I am looking at a juggle between white balance (using grey cards) and post processing in order to get nice, vivid photos...

i just looked at the instruction manual that came with mine and it doesn't say squat about specs...
That makes sense, as I cannot find anything specific on them online (like, at all). It looks like I am going to have to buy a fixture to reverse engineer it. I'll be sure to post my findings...

Tullio at Reefbrite won’t disclose what his “secret spectrum” is for the Reefbrite XHOs, but from reading a bunch of threads here and on RC, it looks as though they are just straight 450nm diodes.

Thanks! That is some interesting information. It's a pretty expensive fixture for a bunch of regular blue diodes... Worth a shot though, I have lots of 450nm diodes, so I'll build a strip and see how well I can photograph it, lol...

I have a 48” tech led. If you want I can count how many led’s are on it and how far apart they are spaced if it helps
