Ok so i have Ai sol blues. I had them over a mixed reef. They had great color, but i got little growth out of them. I also have an evolution 100w that i have over my Lps grow tank. It actually does great, i have great growth from it. I would like input from people that have the reef brite strips about growth.

I want a 48 inch light that can do sps and not put in too much heat.

Thanks

So are you going to ditch the AI's?

I have reefbrites on the main frag tank (55 gallon) at work:
1 XHO white
2 blue
1 50/50
I keep all sorts of SPS under them and growth is great. I must also mention that I am very anal about water quality as most people will say.
I can however say that these lights put out a LOT of light. The spread of the strips is crazy. Here is my recommendation for different size tanks (all 4 feet)
55 Gallon:
1 XHO White
1 XHO Blue
1 XHO 50/50

75 Gallon
2 XHO White
2 XHO Blue

90 gallon
2 XHO White
1 XHO 50/50
2 XHO Blue

The XHOs have twice as many LEDS as the normals. The blues have half blue and half royal blue.
Let me know if you have anymore questions. I have a few customers that are doing all reefbrites and loving it.
Their customer service is great. Joy is awesome.

EDIT: be prepared to get screen to shade your corals for the first few weeks, as they are not dimmable (their only downfall)

yes prob gonna get rid of AIs. So if there was only 12"s of water what would you do for that?

This tank is only 20" from front to back. Could I do An xho 50/50 and a blue only, or would i need 3 ? not a display, grow only
Also i can start at 20" off water and drop as necessary, it has 2 400w 20k on same stretch right now

Growth can be many things.

When choosing a LED light choose one with quality and one that will last. Chinese fixtures do not last...They miss little things like thermal paste between the LED board and heatsink that is if they have a heat sink or just a plate of metal to reduce shipping costs.

The zoonathellea algea are receptive to 420-470nm. This is all you need.

Back in the 80s I saw an awesome LPS tank only lit with Actinic 110watt VHO

90 XP LEDs with optics will give you the same PAR as two 400 watt MH

I think that would work.

Has anybody seen a spectral analysis of both the XHO and standard strip light. I cant seem to find one.

I don't have any whites. I use Mh for daylight and reefbrites for supplement. I have observed the Sps growth towards the reefbrites.

Have you taken one of the chinese units apart to verify this? I think it would be great if someone would gut one of those chinese units & post pics of this so people could learn more. I'm a bit of a home theatre buff & guys do this sort of thing all the time.........take a unit apart to show misgivings or ways to fix or improve the equipment.

I have three Reefbrite xhos over my 250 but also have two 400 watt halides. When I can afford it I will swap out the halides for three more reefbrites.
with the three reefbrites on you have to look in the hood to see if the halides are actually on or off. The color looks better with just the reefbrites on.
I have used Reefbrites on other tanks and SPS love them. I have ONE standard output Reefbrite over a 40 breeder with anemones and soft corals and they are doing fine.
I have an aga 72 gallon bow front I set up running two standard output reef brites on it and sps grow in that tank. It is a mixed reef. The soft corals are huge and the tank is running out of space.
The XHOs are intense!
