Alright, So here is what I have come up with for my lighting, I love how it looks on my tank and Am going to make it permanent. I have a 400watt halide, a 420 actinic t12 and 2 blue actinic t5s...

I want to ditch the Canopy, as the tank is waist level. I want to be able to look in the top of my tank.

I plan on having (with the exception of the Halide Ballast) all the electronics on the fixture, thus only having the power cables dangling. They will be on individual timers, unless I buy a new powerstrip that does multiple timers.
So the electronics is already planned and I have reflectors. all I am needing to do is design the fixture itself.

The room is a cream/gold marble theme with Cherry Trim, so the fixture has to be fit for a king.

I am trying to decide if I want an Arm off the wall or a chain from the ceiling.
I also need to figure out materials.

SO,
To start off...
What would anyone recommend as a lightweight Housing to fit the 4 bulbs?

Will the Metal Halide Burn wood?

OR if anyone has done anything similar, your ideas in general would be cool.

I do not have Lunar Lighting yet, I am going to get a small LED strip some time after the light is running.

As Far as Light positions, I want the Purple in the front, the Blue in the back, the halide in the middle and Poisitioned 10 inches higher off the water than the t5s. (any lower and I have diatom overload)

Still planning, so im open to er'thang

Warlock,

its hard to envision without a pic and I'm not a very good DIY guy, but I do know that ReefKoi sells mounting legs that perhaps you could mod for your lighting. I was considering them at one point.

Also i have seen metal piping used to suspend lighting from the back of the tank, the piping can then be painted black to look nicer.

I can look up some pics if you like. Just pm me.

I will Draw out an Idea, and all the lights involving it. I am still deciding if I just want LEDS though.....So tempting. If I do them I am just going to hang them from a gold chain to match the Trim. But then this thread would be less exciting when I actually start! haha.

I once had a fixture that hung from the ceiling, made of wood that matched my cabinet, and it had metal halide fixtures inside. I looked for old pictures the other day and cannot find them on my computer.

Looking forward to one of them cool videos about how it gonna be Good Luck and Following Along!!

Well, my neighbor gave me a cool idea. If we use it, We are going to take the canopy apart and send it through a planer to make it lighter without taking away from the look. Im going to hang it like a porch swing (without the your springs lol). It will however be on a pulley so i can raise it. But thats also still just an idea. The canopy is mahogany, so im not sure how good i feel about altering it :/
