I keep it simple with my system..
In my case I have a (40 gallon-ish) brute garbage pail mounted above my sump connected to my makeup water RODI line.
I added a overflow line and a bottom drain valve as well both feed to the sump.
When it's time for a water change, I close the valve a day before to allow it to fill up with RODI water. The over flow line allows the sump to continue to be filled.
The sump also has a drain valve installed it it.
water change day:
AM
switch on heater and pump in the Brute
dump in a 50 gallon mix bag
PM
open sump drain valve- when low limit is reached then close it.
turn off heater and pump.
open brute drain valve for a slow fill.
Here is the trick.....
It might initially take a few try's to get he correct drain height in the sump, but once you get it.. it becomes a no brainer.
Check whatever the SG is in the mix that the brute can hold. It will be higher than
normal mix because the brute is not 50 gallons
Don't worry about what SG you are mixing to in the brute. Work out the final water volume in your sump with relation to the mix you have.
In my case Brute SG is higher - so I adjust my sump drain height a bit lower than
the volume of water that will be coming from the brute, and The sump float valve will be asking for makeup water -- final SG adjustment comes automatically from the RODI makeup water after brute drains into the sump. At the end when thefloat valve in the sump adjusts for normal water level.
