Greetings fellow hobbyists,

I'm in the process of setting up a 90g mixed reef. So far, I have the RODI water made and the sand in the tank. I only have a single heater and that's brand new for my tank in the sump. I'll be adding the water in the tank today and the rock (already cured since its from my last tank) soon after. My plan is to add the water then let it heat up for a day or two, then add the rock and account for displacement accordingly. Few questions:

1) Is adding the water first, letting it heat up in the tank and than adding rock acceptable or will this be problematic?

2) What kind of outbreak should I anticipate since the rock already has bacteria on it (using rock from my last tank)?

Thanks in advance folks

This is 100% written for the scenario you face

Yes it's good order of ops you planned, literally nothing would happen to bacteria other than just moving homes. The only outbreak might be some algae due to changing variables, we cover on page 1 how to stop that as well. Even if your fish store cured the rocks, and you were driving them an hour home, still nothing happens they just comprise the classic skip cycle reef. Nothing we do shy of meds or hard drying hurts our bac.
