Anybody has any experience with those disposable filter socks?

Thanks

Never seen it. I wouldn't bother, the cost of durable socks being washed/reused would blow the disposables away cost wise. It's one less thing in the trash eh?

Yes but cleaning socks is one of the nightmares I have in this hobby. I keep buying more to defer the painful certain cleaning task lol. These ones are cheap at $1 each when you buy separately in bulk. So that is like $10 a month, nothing really in this hobby

Isn't it worth a little extra work to not produce so much waste?

I get it, it's not the most glamorous thing. I just turn mine inside out, rinse and throw in the washer when I'm down to one fresh one. Maybe a filter cup is an option for you with floss inside?

I have it. They’re also a Sponsor too. I like it due to the disposable aspect and my wife likes her washer
Thanks. So no practical issues? Just wanted to make sure they work well with no leaks. Dont want to replace one headache with another you know

Try not using any socks. I got tired of cleaning them same as every other person that has ever used them and tried without. I didn’t notice a difference so they stayed off. I would throw them back in ifI was stirring things up but that’s it.

I tried that before but the sump became a junk yard! To clean it I have to bend over and it hurts my back. So that option is not on the table

My only complaint is if you forget about it, it does expand kinda like a balloon and can take a minute to change to let all the water drain out

So my sump uses 2 socks that I change every 2-3 days. That's between $6-9 a week. That's anywhere from $312 to $468 a year vs. buying 12 filter socks a year from aliexpress for $24 including shipping. Probably costs 50 cents to wash all 12 so about $26 a year for that so a total of $60 a year.

I think I will stick with socks.

It's a great idea though just way too expensive long term.

And, to be honest, changing out the ring would be more hassle than pulling the socks, tossing them in a bucket and waiting for wash day.

Got it. But even if left till it balloons it doesnt burst, right?
The Reef Diaper filter elements are very strong and don't lose their strength after being submerged for extended periods of time. The filter elements are also very easy to replace. Let me know if you have any other questions.
