I dipped my hammer and it is now retracted into its skeleton is this normal?

Iodine (main component of Reef Dip) penetrates into cells and oxidizes key proteins, nucleotides, and fatty acids, eventually leading to cell death. It is suppose to kill bacteria, but can kill other cells too.
Toxicity depends on concentration and length of application, so the key to answering your question is another question:
How long did you dip and did you use recommended concentration?

I dipped for 25 minutes and followed instructions. The hammer actually surprising came out I thought it was a goner but maybe it was just stressed out.
