Im slowly...slowly, preparing a new build down the road and trying to price everything out.

I currently have a 40breeder with caribsea fine grain sand and while it looks nice it blows everywhere and is a pain the butt to clean.

I’ve been reading a lot about tropic Eden reef flakes and mesoflakes and have seen nothing to good reviews.

I have a yellow watchman goby and pistol shrimp and was wondering how they would handle the more corse substrate..?

I was thinking of possibly mixing the reef flakes and mesoflakes but the size difference doesn’t seem to be much, is it worth mixing or would anyone recommend one over the other?

I would hate to get one and find out my YWG hates it and gets stressed out

I use carib sea special grade which is very similar in size.

It does not blow around unless you aim your powerheads at it.

I have a pair of wheelers with a pistol shrimp and 2 hi fin red band gobies with a pistol shrimp.

Very small candy cane pistols at that, and there is no issue making burrows, tunnels, etc.

Any particular reason you went with caribsea over Tropic Eden?

Nope. Just read a lot of reviews and asked questions. Have used it in 2 tanks and will always use it as I have no complaints about it.

It’s easy to rinse prior to going in the tank, stays put, and works great with bottom dwellers which I will always have.
