I have a 90 reef and want to upgrade my return pump, skimmer and power heads. I know what type I want but not real sure and how much flow I should be looking at. The pumps that came with the tank are older and the info is no longer on the pumps so I don't know what they are rated at now. I want to be able to any and all corals so want to know how much I need to lean towards.

I based my flow on a 30x rule of thumb I read about (30 GPH x DT Volume). My 220 has about 7000 GPH total circulation and my corals and such seem pretty happy. All my SPS is nice and shaggy looking. My returns (2 Mag 12s) put out about 1000 GPH combined, and I have four 1500 GPH powerheads (two on each end). I experimented with a wave maker (1200 GPH max), but it did not really suit what I am going for with my tank...

Great thanks for the info.

I keep mostly SPS and my turnover is 73.8 per hour. I have a 65 and run a return pump and 2 RW-8 on Else mode. They rip across the top and keep steady but slow movement on the bottom. My tank is Bare Bottom by the way.

Thanks. I'm looking at return pump that is adjustable up to 1500gph and will run it on about 1000-1100 and to adjustable powerheads that go up to 1000 but I will run them at 700-800. Does that sound good ot do yall think it will be too much.
