I used reef flux and it has been three weeks but I still have some hair algae (or ant least what I believe to be) attached to the rock work. Tried to scrub it off but still some attached. Was thinking about doing a three day tank black out to hopefully finish it off. Wondering if this will be too much stress on the corals. I have a mixed reef.

Scrubbing off the last little bits of hair algae isn't worth the effort or the stress/disruption to the tank. Let it grow out a bit so it's easy to grab with gloves on (or bare fingers, but I try to never get in tank without gloves) and pull it off in a big clump. After several rounds you should notice fewer and fewer clumps, although probably never 0. I have three places that I need to pull out once a month and that's fine with me - fairly out of site, doesn't spread and sucks up some nutrients.

Blackouts for GHA never worked for me. The rhisome gets under first few layers of rock and I suspect stores enough energy to get through a short blackout.

This is just my opinion so take it as you will.

I did my 2nd dose of Flux rx on mothers day. The first time I followed the directions and did a large water change but the gha came back. Thus time I still have not done a water change and so far I'm 2 weeks with no gha. Only thing I did since the 2nd dose was blow off my rocks every few days and let my socks catch the crap. At this point I just plan on going back to my regular water change schedule which is only 5 gallons ever 2 weeks on a 40 breeder.

Just be patient and let it run its course.

Thank you both for responding back. I just added some saltwater acclimated mollies. I’ve heard they are good at eating algae. We shall see.
