I have a 40b set up as a frag tank, it has zoas, sps, lps, a few anemones, a 6 line and a lawnmower blenny. Last night I dosed Reef Flux (fluconozole) for the first time. I used 4 tablets. I mixed it up in a cup per directions. There was a lot that didn't dissolve, but I figured that's just how it goes. I put it in, and it looked like a snowstorm in there with all the undissolved stuff. Tonight (about 24 hours later) my 6 line is dead, there are a couple dead brittle stars that I didn't even know were in there, and the blenny is breathing really hard in the corner.

Did I get a bad batch? Should I do a massive water change? Pull the blenny and put in QT? Have other people had the large amount of undissolved white stuff when dosing this?

Sorry to hear about the deaths. I know lots of people have dosed this without any issues, including myself, but that doesn't mean it didn't somehow contribute in some way? I've dosed with the snow storm and had no obvious effects on the livestock. It was originally used as an antifungal fish medication when it comes to aquariums. Have you contacted reef hd to see what they may have to say? I would hope there's no possible way to get a bad batch that would have these sorts of effects!

I would personally do a waterchange, test ammonia and maybe add an airstone for now. Hope some others have ideas of what could be going on?

Just tested, ammonia=0. I just now sent a contact to reef HD, I don't expect them to respond too soon. Just did 10 gallon water change, which should be about 25%. Making more to do another tomorrow.

Sounds like it affected the oxygen in the water. Never had an issue when we used it. Emptied the caps in the overflow to make sure it fully dissolved through the sump and pulled the lid off the skimmer and let it overflow to make sure there was plenty of oxygen in the tank.

Did you add an air stone or run your skimmer with the cup off? I've used Reef Flux and never had a problem, but I do make sure that I oxygenate the water as recommended.

I have read that it can deplete the oxygen in the water. Best thing to od is run the skimmer without the cup on it or use an air stone

Question 1 - why did you dose it.
Question 2 - did you follow the directions (i.e. - fish eat particles - and they get a higher dose if they do)
And - sorry this happened is there anything else 'obvious' that died that could be causing an ammonia spike that you're not seeing?

I did not run the skimmer - per directions. I did not see anything in the directions about the fish eating particles - did I miss something? I'm also curious as to how this could deplete oxygen - I didn't see anything in directions about this. Dosed b/c of algae issues. Followed all directions. As I stated above, no ammonia.

You said you used 4 capsules in a 40b. Do you have rocks that displace the water, resulting in a lower than 40 gal water volume? Maybe it was an accidental overdose.

Fo example I have a 75 gal tank with 30 gal sump but with rocks, equipment etc I calculate about 60 gal total water volume. I base any dosing or additives on 60 gal, not 105.

If I remember correctly they say turn off the skimmer due to over flowing so I just removed the cup. I believe it said to empty capsules in to the sump but I'm not sure. Ours came in a powdered form that dissolved quickly.

Did you have any residuals at all? I had quite a bit, which is why I wondered if the batch was off. I don't have a sump on the tank I used this on, so I couldn't put it there. Still no response from Reef HD as of now.

I thought of this, and it was probably a very slight overdose - there's maybe 35 gallons of water in the tank, but the bottle states you can overdose, and there are threads on here stating you can overdose up to 4x or more with no issues.

BTW, the blenny recovered and is doing fine.

I did in the overflow but none made it into the tank itself. I did dose extra as well. 100 gallon dose in a 75 tank. Glad the fish recovered.
