Hello to all,
I love wrasses, they are gorgeous fish!
First thing, I genuinely would like your input. I’ve been in the fish hobby since I was 16 years old, 45 now. However ever it’s been all fresh water mostly and Central and South America cichlids. I came across a 125 gallon 6ft tank fully loaded that I couldn’t refuse. Come February it will be a year running. I have been learning a lot. Most important, quarantine! Marine ick, I caught everyone, set up a quarantine tank and medicated with copper and frequent water changes. I didn’t lose one.
So my question is: Finishing out with Reef friendly wrasse stocking for 125 gallon tank. Currently have
1 purple tang ( eye candy)
1 yellow eye kole tang ( happy picking)
1 Rudy red head wrasse
1 McCosker’s flasher wrasse
1 diamond goby
1 blue cleaner wrasse
3 blue/green chromis
2 tiger pistol shrimp ( jerks, got 3 blood shrimp no fish in the tank. Always during mottling. 1 at a time.)
Need to get rid of
1 neon dottyback
1 clarkii clown

Thanks

Before suggesting a certain type of wrasse, some more information would be helpful. Do you have a Bare Bottom tank or sand bed? If you have a sand bed how deep is it throughout the tank?
This could potentially limit you on what sort of Wrasse Complex is suggested for your tank.

Sand bottom I’d say probably around 3 inches. Thanks, didn’t even think about the bottom.

That is plenty for a Halichoeres Wrasse.

As Jesterrace stated a 3” sandbed is plenty for a Halichoeres. Not my first go to wrasse but they are good if you have critters you are needing eradicated.
My suggestion would be a nice C.Jordani (flame), C. Lineatus or even a C. Exquisitus, from the Vanatu region they are much prettier. Otherwise if you want smaller I would suggest something like a C. Isosceles also known as a Pintail or Splendid wrasse. You can check out the Wrasse Complex thread and get an idea of what is compatible with your current wrasses.

I'm a big fan of some of the smaller, more peaceful Halichoeres species, such as biocellatus, iridis, chrysus, leucurus, richmondi, and argus.

It is also possible to add more fairy wrasses, if they are in different complex.

I would be comcerned about the dottyback. Neons can be pretty aggressive to wrasses.

Yes, the neon dottyback and the clarkii clowns are turds. They are currently hanging out in the quarantine tank. But, they were part of the deal when I got the tank. Plus it helps me maintain the quarantine tank.

Thanks too everyone for your input. When I finish researching, I’ll post my selection.
