Does anyone have an opinion about using Reef Fusion Pt 1 & 2. Is it worth using or not.

I have a new 200g display and 75g sump.

I have a new 200g display and 75g sump.

There will be some naysayers, but it's what I use for my sps tanks. I have tried to switch to lower cost options, but the reef fusion 2 part works the best for me.

I have only one comment on it, but IMO, that comment calls into question their ability to design a proper 2 part product.

Despite their claims that it is designed for 1:1 dosing, it clearly is not properly designed for that:

Seachem Reef Fusion is not properly alk/calcium balanced for 1:1 dosing

A recent thread in the chemistry forum from someone who found that calcium increased with this product while maintaining alkalinity and using 1:1 dosing as advised by Seachem provoked me to check it's manufacturer specifications to see if it was a balanced additive. From Seachem's claims about...

I agree, it is not a 1:1 ratio. But for me, it's just a matter of adjusting the dosage on the Neptune DŌS. It may be more difficult to use initially if manually dosed.

I used it in the past and it did work but having to adjust the dosage became a chore. Even with Neptunes controlled dosing I was debating between bionic or ATI Essentials and went with B-ionic as it readily available at my LFS. Now my dosing is balanced with the occasional hiccup after a water change. I don't know if Reef Fusion is more or less concentrated so that might factor in your decision as you have a big tank.

Yeah that's true, if I could make a 2 part with the same concentration of alk, I'd use it. I tried using soda ash and my alk dropped too fast too quick, so I changed it back. My tank uses 1 dkh alk a day roughly.

I just opened the Fusion 1&2 bottles this week & dose equal parts. Guess i am testing my levels again to see where I stand. Hopefully it is not going to be too much of a pain.

For the OP, just make sure you regular check your Alk/Calcium if you use it.

Hence my reason for the linked thread showing it is not 1:1. It's not that far off, and is easy to correct for, but how could they make such a mistake, and keep making it year after year?

"In terms of making pure calcium carbonate, this product has excess calcium. Specifically, it has 13.6% too much calcium."

@Randy Holmes-Farley , is it possible to mix both sodium bicarbonate and sodium carbonate in ro water to achieve a concentration of alk at 4400 meq/L? I want to try to make a replacement for the reef fusion 2 at the same concentration and ph. Thanks.

You can use sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate, or a little sodium bicarbonate plus sodium carbonate. A 1:1 mix of bicarbonate and carbonate may hit the solubility limit.

Thank you! You got me thinking about this, and I think I'm going to start making my own 2 part. I just have a high alk demand system, so I only get a couple days to get it right before big alk swings take effect if I guess wrong. So I have always diverted back to the Seachem, because it's what I started with. But at around $40 a gallon, it does get pricey for what it actually is.
