Reef Jars... fill me in.

Not on this forum ;)

But the idea is simple...tank just runs on food and water changes. It is a marineland 5g...the back chambers are meh they hide the heater. I added a tiny powerhead.

This is how much water I change... Enough left so the fish can swim. Jars and pico's can run on 100 percent water changes...corals love that crap :)

Incredible! I’m loving this!

see this last page for how to clean reef jars

We disassemble and clean them, no kid gloves

all the pages reveal reef jar technique works for all reefs, little guy fixes the big guys problems. The entire sand rinse thread fixing up about half a mil $ of reefs was made solely to prove that rinsing out my sand in tap water is awesome and we should all try it lol

Great! Thanks!

Does anyone think it’s possible to keep one clownfish in a reef jar? Maybe get them when they’re really small?

how about a cool clown goby?

Idk I was wondering if it was okay for a Clownfish because Clownfish are my favorite fish. If I was a fish I’d be a Clownfish. They’re my spirit animal.

how many gallon jar are you thinking about?

They are quite easy and can have quite a few coral types. Brandon is the master so will wait for him to post, but I do suggest no fish, just some inverts which are entertaining enough! It just makes it easier.

When running my jar I just bought two jars since they are so cheap, once you figure out how much rock you have can make the 2nd jar weekly with fresh salt mix and just pick up the whole rockwork and put in the other jar. Boom instant 100% change! I would do a once a week feeding a few hours before the w/c then it’s easy to export the remaining food. Just what worked for me.

I’ve got to say the 2 jar switcheroo is about the smartest thing I’ve heard. How easy is that! What equipment do you switch over each time?

I have a three gallon Jar I picked up today (I’m posting pictures after I clean the space for it haha)
I personally don't think I'd go smaller than 10 for a clown long term. Not that it's a rule just my opinion but I feel like the swimming space would be quite small and I'm not sure on getting decent fish appropriate filtration on anything smaller. However, if you had a baby just out of fry size and were certain that the filter was appropriate I'd try one if I had an alternative space available if it didn't work or as it grew.

Just the heater and sicce micro powerhead. Later on got a small tunze. Easy!

Alright, so I set up another thread for the reef jar build itself. Here’s the link if anyone wants to check it out:
