Hey guys, I have a quick question, are actinic blue lights a good choice for a reef aquarium? I’m having trouble deciding because I want the lights to really bring out the color of the corals when I get them.

With t5's actinic bulbs are recommended for growth. They hit spectrum wise key points for most corals. Lot of hobbyist don't like them because of the visible light they produce, but used with blue + or coral plus bulbs, they can grow very nice, healthy coral.

Thanks! I’ve been really confused on the lighting because I know that it is very important, especially for corals.

Can LED's produce the same growth? I've heard that the T-5 setups and bulbs don't last long if splashing occurs etc... Please advise.

Absolutely a LED fixture with good balanced spectrum can produce spectacular results. Most T5 light fixtures come with splash guards, shouldn’t be a problem. I ran T5’s for over a decade with no problems.

Well noted, thanks. I'm leaning toward to LED's...
Any suggestions on which i should lean towards more?
