I have a 125 gallon aquarium with a top frame....you know, the black reinforcing top frame. I have a Nicrew 150 reef light for it, but the frame is too big for the mounting bracket to go over....I could trim it so that it would slide over and tighten up to the aquarium wall. Is it safe to trim some off those top frames? I presume they are there to legitimate a somewhat thinner wall glass. Any ideas would be appreciated!

In my experience with that if you trim it just enough to fit you can't end up getting the screws tight and it sitting solid unless you place a spacer under what is left of the lip(I used a cut piece of 3x3 aragonite tile. I didn't end up liking that idea and in my vase I actually cut a piece of plywood about 4 inches wide the length of tank and mounted it just behind the tank. I mounted the nicrews to that plywood instead. Tank if pained black on back so it looks fine and all you see is light stands rising from just past back of tank.

I wondered about that. Could even use some chair rail trim I have and it should look fine.
