Just like to say hello to everyone in this awesome community.

I am brand new to this hobby. The biggest fish tank I have had was a beta in bowl when I was 7.

The reason I am now doing frenzied research on the topic is because of my 1.5 y.o.'s love for Nemo and any fish he lays hes eyes on. I took him to my LFS and he ran from tank to tank yelling "Fishy!!!"

So after that I said, what kind of dad would I be if i didnt get him an awesome reef tank with some clownfish?

For the past week I have done nothing but browse this fourum and watch youtube videos on the subject. I all of the sudden have an addiction out of nowhere. There is SO much information out there and a lot if it is conflicting. Im trying my best to sift through it all to have a successful first build and make my little guy smile. I am a contractor, so I love the DIY aspect of it all and cant wait to build a sump, maybe even a light bar.

I would Ideally like to do a 40 gallonish corner tank, due to space issues, but I am having problems finding them. If i do they are crazy expensive, so I have been looking on craigslist every day. I have read that patience is key in this hobby so I guess I will accumulate what I need over time, but it is so hard seeing all of these beautiful tanks and controlling myself.

Anywho, I look forward to learning more and meeting some other reefers!

Welcome!

Howdy n welcome - 40 corner huh - i bet thats a hard 1 to find.

Yeah my LFS said the company that made most of the corner tanks stopped making them in sizes smallr than 55, which is a lil too big for me.

Welcome!

What about a hexagon tank? They work well in corners also and seem more common

Welcome to R2R!! Best of luck. The best advice I have been given is to take your time and do it right the first time. You will be happy that you did in the long run.

Thank you all, just found the tank I was looking for on craigslist! Now it's time to set up plumbing and ro/di!

Yes I was very lucky. It wasnt easy though, i saw a 55g corner at my LFS that i was itching to get but it was $350 w/o a stand, and a little bigger than i was planning on going for my first tank. I was patient on CL and this 40g popped up a few miles from my house, the seller could not have been cooler, offering advice and tips, plus it came with a stand!
