Hi guys,

This is my first protein skimmer and I don't think I set it up right. Its foaming like crazy but I'm guessing it might be normal since its a new skimmer. The big thing is that the bottom of skimmer is leaking bubbles which isn't normal right?

Also, when I try to make adjustments, the foam shoots up faster at min then max. Did I install incorrectly?

Thanks in advance for the help

Don't try fine tuning it yet. Open the valve all the way and let it run for 4-7 days. Until you start seeing skim mate building up on the skimmer body. At that point you can fine tune it. If you try to tune it before that you'll never get it to stay at a consistent level. I have the SRO 2000 it threw bubbles like crazy when I first got it and couldn't for the life of me get it to stay at a consistent water level. That's until after hours of research I found out that you need to do what I stated above. I did that and what do you know it, the microbubbles are almost none and the level inside the body doesn't budge. Hope this helps! This is assuming you have it sitting at the correct water level.

Will do. I think the water level was a bit to high also. I'm using the cap to keep it up high until I can get some egg crate or something.

Thanks for the tip!

Get it at the correct level being to high will also add to your problems. Idk about the one you have but on mine the level has to be at the bottom of the skimmer. I believe most reef octopus skimmer that don't have a clearly marked water line on the skimmer body is to put them at the bottom of the sticker mark. I could be wrong on my sentence before this one so don't quote me on it lol.

Did you ever get it to work right? I have one that's 3 months old and still has bubbles exiting the body of the skimmer. Thanks in advance.
