So a little bit of background, My tank is a 220 gallon. I bought the protein skimmer about 1 month ago, At the beginning it went crazy, but I read that it does that, so I just let it be, but it still hasn't settled down, after 1 month in the sump, it's sitting in 8inches of water but just overflows the collection cup. My live stock is
Scopas tang
Powder blue tang
Blonde naso tang
Flame angel
1 clown fish
1 blood orange clown fish
1 lawnmower blenny
1 Fiji foxface

Anyone have any ideas on what is going on? Or what I can do to help it skim?

That's the collection cup, it just fills with water, the red knob is open to it's fullest.

First, because it's easy and something you'd do anyway sooner or later, I'd take the skimmer apart completely and give it a wipedown with vinegar and a complete rinse. Then return it to service one more time. Maybe you'll get lucky and it'll be fine from there on....but if not....continue reading! ;)

There are some other possibilities like depth of water in the sump, etc, but I'd start there.

Is it possible this has an over-sized pump on it? If so you might have to turn down the air quite a bit.

Regardless, how far down do you have to turn the air before you see the flooding stop?

Is there anything blocking - or partly blocking - the drain?

It's the pump that came with the protein skimmer, I've opened the air all the way and it's still flooding, if I close it it gets worse :/

What's the water level it's sitting in the sump? If it's too high it will cause it to fill the cup with water like that and make it hard (or impossible) to adjust

Mine did this as well and had to let it skim out about a gallon of clear before it settled down. It was just trying to take something out of the water. But my setup was new

It's in 8inches of water

That's the higher end it's supposed to be in. I would raise it up a inch or 2

I would also recommend putting a restricter on the air line to the pump, that tends to help as well until the skimmer is broken in fully

Are you using any chemicals that would cause skimmer to overflow ex stress coat , pimaflex , or anything like that or is the water level in sump to high

Ard you using anything like stress coat or clorine remover that will cause skimmer to overflow or any other chemicals that might do that

No, I use only RODI water with 0TDS in my tank, it's still overflowing right this second, I don't know what I can do to make it stop, The valve is open all the way if I start closing it, it will fill up faster :/

any time this happens to me with a new skimmer I raise it in the sump . id say raise it 2 inches or a little more . should fix it as long as the skimmer is put together right. manufactures recommendations are just that recommendations . I have a bubble magus curve 5 that is recommended to be in 9- 10 and it will do just what yours is doing . its sitting in about 6 inches of water and skims like a beast!
