reef octopus classic hb-100 mod???

hey peeps, so i bought a new sump to start another reef tank and im having an issue with the skimmer.
the new sump is tall and the skimmer pump at its normal hight will not be deep enough.
my question to you all is if i cut the pump's intake pipe and extend it a few inches will the pump still have enough power to create good micro bubbles and get them to the collection cup?
seems like a few inches wouldnt be an issue but wanted some opinions before i cut this intake pipe. thanks.

The only concern I would have with it is creating more head prey on the pump. I think that has the 1000 pump on it so you could step up to the 2000 pump if needed.

Thats what i was thinking also. Guess ill give it a go and if it doesnt work just step up to the larger pump.
