Any thoughts on which one I should get?

+$300 for a DC motor?

Is it worth it?

I had the classic on my old 125g ( it came with the tank)
I got an Regal later. I used the different speeds for various times, feeding, cleaning the sand ect....

I opted for the 202-s for price reasons. No experience using it yet unfortunately but brs had 2 open box for 75 off normal price

The dc pump is quieter.
I run my speed at 3 out of 5, which I could not do if it were not adjustable.

I have the Regal 200 with the DC pump, it is a nice skimmer, and it is quiet, it is way too big for my 120 tank, I bought it for my 220-gallon tank that is in the garage. If you can find a used one with the Sicce pump buy that. How big is your DT?

My DT is 125g but with sump 55g, refugium 20g and frag tank 40g I think the total system volume is around 190i'ish g. I tend to feed too heavy because I'm always looking at the smallest/slowest eater.

Also, I have a real sand bed because I like to grow cyano and diatoms.

I mention this for a reason because I think it's important when talking about skimmers.

If you don't have a sand bed you can do a better job of removing detritus mechanically. If you're keeping a sand bed, I think you're going to have more of a reservoir of decaying organics that you will need to remove on a continuing basis.

All of that said, I went for the RO Elite 200 INT because that's the kind of guy I am. (Sort of the same reason I like driving my Maserati to the town dump.) I'm really hoping the controllable DC motor really helps me dial-in my skimmer and since I have an open sump I thought the few extra bucks for the extra looks were ok.

I've been running DC return pumps and I have really liked the ability to adjust their flow and I've been having a heck of time with my current skimmer. So, I figure it's got to worth it to go with this feature even though it adds more thank a few $$$ to the price tag.

Thanks, I have the Regal and it is a beast for my 120 gallon tank with 4 large fish the size of my hand each. It will skim anything out that you throw at it but might be waiting on you to do it. Happy reefing.
