Hi all. Newbie here.. Planning out my fist tank and need your help. My LFS quoted me a redsea skimmer for my 425 but have my reservations on it. I have read alot and saw that the Reef Octopus is much better. Is the RO 150s good enough? If so which 150 model is the best for the 425? Sump will have reef mat so might be tight for space

If you will have the reefmat then you can get a smaller skimmer. Either of those 2 will work. I have owned both those brands of skimmers and the perform very well. It will come down to how much you can spend and if you prefer a DC pump versus a AC pump. I prefer the RO 150.

Personal opinion and experience. Go with reef octopus. Red Sea skimmers have given me nothing but headaches. I love most of their other pieces of equipment. Skimmers we’re such a let down for me…
build quality feels much better with a reef octopus.

I’m also think reef octopus is a great choice. I love mine which isn’t the one you mentioned, but the DC pump is great and easy to fine tune. The quality is also nice.

DC is great to go with. Mine is a 110 INT with an AC pump. It’s quiet. Does a good job. A little bulky but overall a great skimmer.

For a 65 gallon tank and filter roller, I would put a Simplicity DC 120 in that tank, nothing bigger than that.
