im asking for a friend who refuses to go on forums. Anyway he has a reef octopus insump skimmer which is overflowing with foam as soon as he turns it on even on the lowest setting. Anyone know how or have any ideas on how to fix this problem? I will add he did use red slime remover but that was 2 months ago and multiple water changes have been done since. I’m also not sure what model skimmer either.

Skimmer is either to deep in the water, the air inlet line is blocked or clogged, or if its brand new they generally have an up to two week break in period. If you can find out the model number, there should be a way to look at the recommended skimmer depth on either the skimmers website or on a sellers website. Hope this helps!

He does keep the water pretty high in the sump but never had a problem before. I’ll have to find out the model and go from there. Thanks for the responses.

1. Is it new?
2. Did he add any additive like bacteria?
3. Did he put in new filter socks?

The skimmer was used when he got it, judging by the looks probably a couple years old. Only thing that was added was red slime remover which says on the box you don’t need to turn off the skimmer but may need to be adjusted. Filter socks are changed when they become clogged.
