Lets hear from the Reef Octopus NWB-200 peeps. Would you recommend this skimmer? Can you provide proof of it skimming good for you? I am in the market for a good skimmer.

HOw deep of water do you keep it in?

Any and all information is greatly appreciated.

I have one. It's way over-sized for my tank. It does it's job well. I've had to replace the impeller twice in one year, (buzzing). It's a good skimmer. If I was going to buy another I would go with the Super Reef Octopus with the upgraded pump, just because. I don't have any pics or anything of it skimming but for being rated for more than twice for my tank size it keeps my tank clean but it's not like I get a cup of skimmate everyday. I get about 1/2 inch in the bottom of my cup every few days and clean it out. There is a thick layer of detritus in the neck of the cup and on the lid when I clean it too. Mine runs in about 6 1/2 inches of water. I made a pedestal for it to sit on to raise it up to that level.

Is the Super Reef Octopus made by the same manufacturer?

So you would go with the Super Reef Octopus because of the pump only?

The upgrade is for a 34 gallon but plan to go bigger later. I seen some good reviews about the Reef Octopus and want to make sure I get the right skimmer. I currently have a BM NAC 3.5 and really don't like the skimmate it produces.

Maybe I am thinking and concentrating too much of skimming? I see all of these pictures of dark skimmate and thing that is the goal. All I get from the BM NAC 3.5 is a tea color and I am wondering if that is ok? I have 4 fish in a 34 gallon and feed 3 times per week. I now feed my coral oyster feast two time per week (Monday - Friday). So maybe my bio load isn't high and I shouldn't worry about the color as long as skimmate is being produced?

Thoughts?

In my experience the more "wet" skimming you do the lighter the color and the more "dry" skimming you do the darker the color. Wet skimming removes waste faster but it is not as concentrated. I prefer to go somewhere in between.

Hope this helps.
