Reef Octopus Regal 150 S

I am leaning toward buying a quality skimmer in the Reef Octopus Regal 150 S. I like the fact that it has the quality Reef Octopus pump, and they are a pretty quality brand over all. I am wondering if anyone has had success running this skimmer on an 80g total water volume system with a medium to heavy bio-load. I am also looking at the Reef Octopus Essence 130, but it doesn't have the Reef Octopus pump and is an AC pump.

Anyone with experience of running the Regal 150 S on a smaller system, please let me know. Thank you!!

I currently have three different #reefoctopus skimmers running on different systems. I think that the Reef Octopus Regal 150S will work fine on the 80g. I have a RO 150 classic running on a 55g plus sump and it works well. I also have a RO Essence 130 on a 75g plus sump. The great thing about the Essence 130 is the small footprint - I got it so that I could fit the 130 and my Reef Octopus Light Reactor into the same sump chamber. They are both good skimmers, but personally I would choose the 150. Good luck with whatever you choose!

Wow, thank you for all the detail! The essence footprint is great but I don’t think I could fit anything else really. I have the Trigger Sapphire 26, has about an 8”x10” skimmer chamber. Awesome that you have the regal 150 on a similar sized tank working well.

My cabinet is about 26” tall. Will the 23” height of the Regal be able to be serviced with that small of a clearance in your opinion?

This is all my first go at this so I’ve never even held a skimmer let alone serviced one. Lol.

You may want to check with CoralVue support ([email protected]) to get their opinion on the fit. It will be tight, but I think that it should work with 3" of clearance. You will only need enough room to remove the collection cup and then you gain another approximately 5" to maneuver the skimmer.

I have the Regal 150-s... I love it and it really does a great job producing nasty skimmate. I use it on my Waterbox 100.3

If I get this model, it will only have about a half inch clearance in my sump based on the footprint dimensions. Will this be an issue?

Very nice! I just check the 34's dimensions, 10x14. I am 8x10. You think it would fit? Would those tight clearances around the footprint be an issue with flow or anything? I thought I remembered seeing somewhere it should have 2" clearance from the output? How much room do you have above yours?

Great skimmer... Have owned it... Have upgraded to the 300 SSS which is a beast.... All great skimmers...

As far as the footprint, I think you would be fine, not much room to spare though. I have several inches above my skimmer, so its very easy for me to remove the skimmer cup. As long as you have a couple inches above it could be removed, but it may be a pain.

Don;t let the pain part scare you, they are great skimmers. I plan on upgrading to a 200sss when I upgrade my tank to a 225 gal tank.

Thoughts on those three?

I personally don't have any experience with those, but I have heard good things about Deltec.
