Those with Reef Octopus skimmer, whether its Regal or Elite models, any major difference between the INT version and S (space saver) versions besides the pump being Internal?
Maintenance, noise, ease of use?

Anyone actually went from INT to S?
I'm asking because there seems to be a consider price difference for having Space saver models.

My previous experience with skimmers were all internal, BM Curve 5, Deltec SC1455

The space savers do not perform as well as the int due to the pumps taking up chamber space per BRS customer service. The space savers only have 1 advantages per the guy I talked to at BRS when I ordered my Regal 250 INT.
Here is exactly what he said.
“As the name says it’s a space saver that allows you to put a larger Skimmer in a smaller location with the loss of performance. “

That's good to know.

I bought the Elite INT.

Per above, I think you really only choose the more expensive internally mounted pump options if you need to for space limitations. Otherwise more chamber volume and easier maintenance with the INT.

That said, really look at the dimensions. The INT's have pretty big footprints.

Hi @Skep18, how did you deal with your INT and the micro bubbles? I have my 150int set at 1 LED, lowest setting and I can see the T-joint drawing the bubbles out....the pump is great, silent, produces tons of bubbles, but the bubble plate isn't able to keep it in the cone, some of the bubbles are being drawn down and out through the T-join.

I've seen a few videos on people reviewing their INT skimmer, mostly Regal INT models but same concept and they don't seem to have this problem, all their bubbles remain inside and above the bubble plate.

Bump!

Are non space saving skimmers better than the SS counterpart? Space is not a concern with my sump but I’m curious why they would even make the int version if it wasn’t a better performer

I think you answered your own question .. for space ..

Yes I got that but then why even make a model that is not space saving? There must be a pro for having the pump outside the skimmer body, I am wondering if it’s performance

That's the theory. The taller the reaction chamber (with the pump outside), the better skimming performance. I doubt there is any real world difference. I went with the INT because the SSS is way more expensive.

I bought the Regal 150-S with the internal pump due to lack of space in my sump; i have a fairly heavy stocked tank and together with a Clarisea SK-3000 filter roller, i have absolutely no issues what so ever.

It might be a space saversolution- but it's a monster!
