Does anyone have an issue with rpi3 running at a very high temp? I have 2 rpi 3s one ran so hot it burned itself up and the other one is running at almost 80C.
They both have heat sinks on them and it doesn't seem to help much.
This is with the rpi at rest with nothing taxing the cpu except VNC connect and a browser.

My rpi 3B+ runs at about 45 C running reef-pi and VNC.
Do I need to add a cooling fan to use a pi3?

My pi3 movie server is running at 52* C. It's in a case with heat sinks but no fan. Have read that some heat sinks have tape that isn't heat sink tape and can cause them to run hotter than without.

I have a piB3+ and it runs according to my temp probe in the 80's. I feel like once its closed up it will probably be hotter so I plan on putting a small fan on the box. Have you tried using a thermal glue on your heatsink instead of the tape?

Yeah the heatsinks are just taped on. I'll try some thermal glue. Any particular brand?

My TV was getting hot and shutting down so I removed all the heatsink tape and re did it with this one and my TV started working again so it must be ok lol

Fahrenheit, I am sure it would be fine but adding a fan wont hurt and I have a little one laying around from another project.

80C = 176F, I can't remember equations but Google does. At 80-85C the pi slows processes down to preserve itself. But 80F is only 26-27C. Just was asking to clarify. You can put a temp icon in the toolbar of Raspbian, right click on the toolbar-add/remove panel items-add and scroll down to temp monitor and hit add.

Yes it's kinda scary to see my pi running so hot. I put a 12v fan next to it and got it down to 55 celsius.
I'll add the temp icon after work tonight.

I used the same heat sink epoxy I use for LED lights and my laser builds. Way overkill but i'll post up the brand and part later tonight

Hi,
Just starting to look into making DIY controller and stumbled upon Reef-Pi and the community that follows. Before I get too deep into supplies and planning, I was hoping someone could give me a list of what capabilities the Reef-Pi can provide so far?

I would basically like to have the following functions myself if possible:
Water Temp Monitoring and Control
Outlet controls for pumps skimmer etc.
Salinity Monitoring
PH Monitoring
Convert my SB Reef Light to be controlled
Dosing pump control
Display to tablet wirelessly if possible or Attached screen
Notifications if anything out of the norm via email or text

Can these be done and are there any other cool functions that can be done?
