Anyone interested in adding a real time clock to reef pi, I did a writeup about adding one of the cheap ds3231 modules on ebay and amazon on my build thread. If you use these cheap modules with a standard battery, theres a possible FIRE or EXPLOSION waiting to happen, I did a write up on eliminating that possibility.

Really baffled me, I spent a good 4 hours trying to figure it out and nada, anyway I've set the router to a static IP address for the pi so now it'll come up without issue on my mobile browser. I use android are you using an iPhone @Ranjib ?

Just wondering...

1. The DS3231 is alot more accurate than the PCF8523 or the DS1307 time clocks.
2. The DS3231 i got on ebay was a US shipper and was 3.95...adafruit was 13.95
3. I had a 5 dollar on anything ebay coupon about to expire so it was free.

Thats why i did the write up, its a cheap option all over ebay...as long as you either use a rechargable lithium, or if using a standard cr2032 coin cell, you disable the crude charging circuit.
Since lithium ion is a no no for air shipping, sellers have been selling these with a coin cell and its dangerous....thus the write up!

Yup good to go now, crazy that they ship them that way, would think they would sell both versions but removing the resistor seems to be an easy fix.

I had one catch on fire on my lighting controller took out most components with it, when I rebuilt it I bought a branded battery, been running without issue now for 8 months touch wood.

Temperature spike for the last 3 nights at the exact same time (2034 EST). Also, the temperature probes have been falling in and out, but not at the times of the spikes. I will replace the splitter as a means of troubleshooting, but the temp spikes are kinda alarming.

What interval are they set to read at?
How are they wired to your pi?

60 Second interval. It's been good until this weekend. The reef-pi has been restarted a couple of times, and I have the temperature probes, both with the 3.5mm jack, but going into a basic headphone splitter.

60 Second interval. It's been good until this weekend. The reef-pi has been restarted a couple of times, and I have the temperature probes, both with the 3.5mm jack, but going into a basic headphone splitter.

We had lots of wind over the weekend and I know we lost power 2 or 3 times. I have 3 temp probes all wired directly but mine have been solid since I started using them, no anomalies. The splitter should work did both temp probes spike or just one? Looks like it was just one, if so I would just switch the probe ports and see if the spike follows the probe maybe you identify that way if it's a probe or the splitter.
